New underground auditorium

An artist’s impression of the new auditorium to be built under the Mitchell Reading Room

A state-of-the-art 350-seat auditorium will be established for gatherings and conferences (replacing the existing 140-seat auditorium) in an area beneath the Mitchell Library Reading Room. 

It will be equipped to host high-end productions and performances, and will vastly expand the diversity of events offered by the State Library, enhancing its public offering. With night-time access from the Mitchell building, the auditorium will make a significant contribution to the cultural life of Sydney.
