The State Library of NSW today announced the winners of the NSW Premier’s Literary Awards, with a total of $295,000 awarded across 12 prizes.
NSW Premier, The Hon. Gladys Berejiklian MP said: “Congratulations to this year’s winners whose words have engaged, educated and inspired us. The NSW Premier’s Literary Awards have recognised and supported outstanding literary achievement since 1979 and it’s fantastic to have the opportunity to welcome today’s winners into the history books. All of us could do with an added dose of inspiration and stimulation during these most challenging times.”
As State Librarian John Vallance said when he was told about the winners, “There’s probably never been a better time to be a writer – and a reader. We at the Library are delighted that the Premier continues to support these important awards and that we can continue to administer them.”
According to Senior Judge, Jane McCredie: “This year's winners tell important stories in challenging and provocative ways. Masters of their craft, the winning writers ask us to confront complex histories and reflect with honesty and compassion on our present and possible futures. As judges and writers, we thank the Premier for her ongoing support for these awards and the work writers do in holding a mirror to our society.”
