Mark Willacy’s shocking account of war crimes by Australian SAS soldiers in Afghanistan draws from the reporting undertaken for his award-winning Four Corners report, ‘Killing Field’. This narrative incorporates the voices not only of SAS insiders but also those Afghani civilians and the spouses of soldiers.
Willacy doesn’t sensationalise his subject, nor is he in thrall to military myths about violence and masculinity. Instead, Rogue Forces is a gripping indictment of Australian war crimes, all the starker for the author’s clear and direct prose style.
