This is an exquisitely illustrated and written children’s book by Dharug author Jasmine Seymour. As inclusive as it is charming, Open Your Heart to Country encourages young readers (and older ones) to embrace the spirit and language of the places they live in.
Told in both standard English and Dharug, it is one in an important series of steps that are teaching 21st-century Australians about the Aboriginal character and the history of the lands they call home. It is an invitation to learn and love the Australian landscape, and a reminder that lost languages are always waiting to be reclaimed and loved once again.
