Murphy’s play is expertly wrought from a huge amount of available material, much of it charged and sensitive. It speaks to the national conversation through its examination of aspects of the Packer dynasty, which has long wielded influence and power. Its frame of fathers and sons allows for a focus that makes this family story universal despite its extraordinary particulars. Hugely ambitious, the writing is crafted to a superior standard. It is difficult to write unflinchingly about those in the public eye, yet the playwright makes it appear effortless.
