Harrison’s play is built on a simple, yet sophisticated, premise: seven Aboriginal Elders gather to discuss their response to the ships about to anchor on Gadigal land on what we now know as 26 January 1788. The premise creates a lively theatrical world in which each of the Elders offers differing views, building suspense and insight, threaded with telling wit.
This is a play of significance, offering a unique exploration of an historical moment that continues to haunt. The Visitors is a powerful, imaginative and interrogative work from a playwright at the top of her game.
