Hueston has translated some of the most innovative and original voices in contemporary French literature. Since 1989, she has to her credit 10 book translations published in Britain and Australia, as well as numerous shorter translations. She is the principal translator into English of works by Marie Darrieussecq, winner of the Prix Médicis award in 2013, whose internationally acclaimed novels explore the social and sexual complexities of womanhood as well as world politics and social issues.
Hueston’s wide range of translations also includes novels by Patrick Modiano, the Nobel laureate, Sarah Cohen-Scali and the French Israeli writer Raphaël Jerusalmy. The quality of her translations is of the highest order. With a perfect command of idiomatic French she deftly conveys in English the subtleties of tone and style. As Senior Editor at Text Publishing, she has also played an active role in Australia in promoting the publication of texts in translation.
