Bear and Rat, written by Christopher Cheng and illustrated by Stephen Michael King, is in many ways the perfect picture book, from its unique beginning on.
The book tells the story of two friends, Bear and Rat, and their love for one another. Rat enquires about their love and Bear answers. King’s illustrations are subtle and masterful and are a perfect mirror for Cheng’s fable-like text. Beautifully written and imagined, this tale will make you cry.
