Nardi Simpson’s novel tells the story of the Billymils, a First Nations family who have lived in the small town of Darnmoor in North West NSW for three generations. An exploration of community and survival, it follows each generation in sequence as we learn of the cumulative abuses and hardships they have suffered as a result of racial persecution and colonisation. A deeply moving book marked by vivid characters and a strong sense of place, Song of the Crocodile lays bare the long-term impact of systemic racism.
