The Indigenous Unit recently attended the 2014 AIATSIS National Indigenous Studies Conference in Canberra to promote the Rio Tinto funded Rediscovering Indigenous Languages project. The team hosted a trade stall over the three days of the conference to provide information to attendees on the language lists identified in the Library collection relating to Aboriginal and Torres Strait islander communities.
It was a wonderful opportunity to connect with researchers, educators and community members to discuss the significant resources held in the Library relating to languages. There was a lot of positive feedback and enquiries received about the lists being made available for further research and investigation. The website for the project is currently being developed by the web team, and will be launched in the near future.
