On this day, 28th April 1789, Fletcher Christian led a group of mutineers against Lieutenant William Bligh in what would become known as the Mutiny on the Bounty.

The State Library of New South Wales holds manuscripts, pictures and relics relating to William Bligh and the Mutiny, including the logbook of HMS Bounty, a letter from Bligh to his wife describing the mutiny and Bligh’s telescope.

The engraving by Robert Dodd from 1790 is from the State Library’s collection.
