On 4th March 1804, the convict rebellion at Castle Hill began. Usually referred to as the Battle of Vinegar Hill, it was led by Irish rebel, Phillip Cunningham. Lt Col George Johnston, led the NSW Corp and suppressed the uprising. Phillip Cunningham was executed without trial at Windsor.
