We have completed the first stage of our Banks Project which has involved digitising the Sir Joseph Banks papers (almost 9,000 pages) and enhancing our detailed online research guide. The Sir Joseph Banks papers including the Endeavour Journal can now be searched and browsed in a variety of ways using our new graphic interface. Click here to visit the guide.
This online research guide is a new way for us to provide access to large significant collections and we’d love to know what you think, click here to provide feedback.
As part of stage one we have also included background on the life of Sir Joseph Banks and links to other significant Banks collections around the world.
The second stage will include full transcriptions of all documents in the archive, thus making them fully keyword searchable. The archive is currently being transcribed by our digital volunteers using our online transcription tool. We’re just over halfway there, you can help us complete this second stage by joining our team of digital volunteers and transcribe from the comfort of your own home here.
The project has been made possible by sponsorship from The McLean Foundation, Dr Timothy Pascoe AM and Mrs Eva Pascoe and The Key Foundation.
