The Library has just completed digitising three minute books of the Sydney Female Refuge Society: Ladies Committee book, 7 June 1863–65 December 1911; daily journal book, 30 September 1864–22 October 1870; and the daily journal book, 1 May 1891–26 January 1899.
For 77 years the Society provided a home for women escaping from prostitution and unmarried young girls who fell pregnant. These papers provide a remarkable insight into the activities of a women's refuge in the nineteenth century.
The minute books have been digitised from a microfilm copy as part of the Library’s ongoing digitisation program, providing improved access to our heritage collections.
