Black and white illustrating of man kneeling at an alter, four knights at his back, surrounded by branch of leaves.

The Canterbury tales 1929-1931

By Geoffrey Chaucer

This edition features the illustrative work of English engraver and typographer Eric Gill. Gill was inspired by the figurative borders used in medieval manuscripts to provide satirical commentary.  The Canterbury Tales was produced as a four volume set over two and a half years and bound by London bookbinders Sangorski and Sutcliffe.
