Asia diuisa nelle sue parti secondo lo stato presente, descritta, e dedicata al P. R:mo Tirso Gonzales1696
Vincenzo Coronelli was a Franciscan friar, cosmographer and cartographer of atlases and globes, born on 16 August 1650, probably in Venice. Coronelli’s impressive map of Asia is printed on two separate sheets (which was very advanced for the time). It included geographical information sourced from the Jesuits, or the Society of Jesus, who were the leading Catholic missionaries in Asia. This is acknowledged in the large cartouche on the left-hand side, over Africa.
