Hand written manuscript. The first line reads: Here are the adventures of Snugglepot and Cuddlepie.

Original handwritten manuscript for Snugglepot and Cuddlepie submitted to publishers Angus & Robertson, 1918 1918

By May Gibbs

In 1918 Angus & Robertson published May Gibbs’ sixth book and introduced the brothers Snugglepot and Cuddlepie. The many adventures of these two gumnuts would delight and scare generations of children. With over 10,000 words of text and 22 full-page illustrations, this was Gibbs’ longest storybook to date. The first, second and third editions were snapped up by a gumnut-greedy public. Gibbs dedicated her book to ‘the two dearest children in the world: Lefty and Bill’ — her nicknames for her parents.
