An engraving of a bridge spanning two land masses.

Proposed bridge from near Dawes Point, Sydney, to near Milsons Point, North Shore, 1857 (rear) 1857

By PE Henderson

This design is the earliest existing proposal for a bridge spanning Sydney Harbour. With a flat span of cast iron, supported by towers at each end and lit by oil lamps all the way across, its low clearance over the water would have impeded shipping.
