View in Woolloomooloo Bay ... taken from lower Domain Road 1849

By George Edwards Peacock

This view of Woolloomooloo Bay, seen from the head of the bay, was painted a decade before the wharves which now line it began to be constructed. Garden Island can be seen in the middle of the painting. The island was not connected to Potts Point until 1946. On the right, Sydney’s most fashionable residences can be seen along the ridge of Darlinghurst. The small structures along the foreshore on the left of the bay are bathing houses.
