The B List with Bri Lee & Sanam Maher
Join us online for The B List book club hosted by Bri Lee.
Each month Bri is in conversation with a contemporary author followed by a Q&A session.
Bri will be in conversation with her first international guest Sanam Maher, author of A Woman Like Her: The Short Life of Qandeel Baloch.
From life in the village where Baloch grew up in the backwaters of rural Pakistan, to her stint in a women’s shelter after escaping her marriage, then to her incarnation as a social media sensation. Baloch’s posts were viewed millions of times and the comments beneath them are full of hate. As her notoriety grew, the comments made about her on national talk shows were just as vitriolic. They called her Pakistan’s Kim Kardashian, they said she’d do anything for attention. When she was murdered, they were transfixed by the footage of her body.
Drawing on interviews and in-depth research, Sanam’s book pieces together the life of Qandeel Baloch, the world’s most unlikely feminist icon.
