With Barbara Sweeney
Self-confessed cookbook tragic Barbara Sweeney understands those of us who read cookbooks like novels and guiltily smuggle their latest purchase home. She explores the love of cookbooks and looks at the genre through history, including examples in the Library’s collection and the emergent multimedia cookery experience. If you have that fast disappearing artefact, the inherited, handwritten family cookbook, bring it along as we’d love to see it and hear its story.
Barbara Sweeney writes about food, farmers and artisan food producers, reviews restaurants and judges regional food competitions. She founded Food & Words, where she organises food events with a literary bent. This includes the annual Food & Words writers’ festival, book launches, author talks, food writing workshops and cooking classes, where the recipes and tips used are those gleaned from a lifetime of reading cookbooks
