What does it mean to write about nature in 21st century Australia? The Romantic model, embraced by Australian nature writers post-settlement, was unsuited to a continent that had been inhabited for tens of thousands of years by Aboriginal people. The rapid pace of climate change has forced a reassessment of what nature is, and how it relates to us. A new wave of Australian nature writers will redefine how to write about landscape, Country, ecology, and biosphere.
