Judging a book by its cover
With David Pearson
Why might we be interested in book bindings on old books? Collectors and librarians have traditionally valued them as luxury objects or works of art, but that approach leaves behind the majority of more ordinary-looking books that the past has bequeathed to us. In fact, every binding can tell a story. This talk will explore various aspects of book bindings, including examples from Australian collections.
David is presenting this lecture in his role as a faculty member of the 2020 Sydney Summer Rare Book School.
