World Press Photo Exhibition 2020
We are excited to announce the launch of the annual World Press Photo exhibition, as its only venue in Australia this year. Until 18 October you can view the world’s best photojournalism from 2019 in our galleries.
This is the 20th year the State Library has hosted the exhibition, this time with the generous support of Canon Australia and, for the first time, in partnership with the Judith Neilson Institute for Journalism and Ideas.
Selected from the prestigious World Press Photo contest, the exhibition features more than 150 powerful and evocative images and photo series captured by professional photographers from across the globe. It covers contemporary issues, the environment, general news, long-term projects, nature, portraits, sports and spot news.
Australian photographers Matthew Abbott (Spot News) and Sean Davey (Contemporary Issues) won second prize in their categories for their coverage of the recent Australian bushfires, and Adam Ferguson (Portraits) won first prize for his portrayal of displaced people from camps in northern Iraq.
Connecting the world to the stories that matter....
The world's best photojournalism from 2019 is selected from the prestigious World Press Photo contest, which started when a group of Dutch photographers organised an international contest in Amsterdam in 1955.
