World Press Photo Exhibition 2020

Due to the global pandemic, the annual World Press Photo exhibition won't be traveling to Sydney in May this year, we have brought the exhibition to you online.

Connecting the world to the stories that matter.... 

The world's best photojournalism from 2019 is selected from the prestigious World Press Photo contest, which started when a group of Dutch photographers organised an international contest in Amsterdam in 1955.

The exhibition now features over 150 powerful and evocative single images and photo series captured by professional photographers from across the globe, covering contemporary issues, the environment, general news, long-term projects, nature, portraits and spot news. 

Australian photographers Matthew Abbot (Spot News) and Sean Davey (Contemporary issues) won second prize in their categories for their coverage of the recent Australian bushfires, and Adam Ferguson (Portraits) won first prize for his portrayal of dispalced people from camps in Northern Iraq.

Digital storytelling

There is also a digital storytelling component to the exhibition which includes interactives and online videos (long and short form).

The combined contests recognise and celebrate the best in visual journalism and digital storytelling produced over the last year.
