The most influential architectural book in the world
I quattro libri dell'architettura di Andrea Palladio …, 1570
by Andrea Palladio
published by Appresso Dominico de' Franceschi in Venice.
This first edition of Andrea Palladio’s architectural treatise is one of the most influential books on architecture. Containing over 200 woodcut illustrations, produced from the author’s own drawings, the work celebrates the purity and simplicity of classical architecture. Divided into four sections, Palladio’s Quattro libri covers the fundamental principles of architecture; private dwellings; urban infrastructure and the architecture of ancient temples. Palladio had a lasting influence on architectural style throughout the world and founded an architectural movement which takes his name — Palladian architecture.
