Communicating – A day at the beach

Students select either a character from the book At The Beach by Ronald Harvey or a photograph showing a person doing an activity at a beach. Students can bring photos from home showing themselves or family and friends at the beach. Students re-enact the beach scene by standing in a frozen pose just like the photo. Then they come to life and act out their activity. They also include ways that they can look after for the beach.

Alternatively, students recreate one of the source photos but wearing modern clothes. They hold a frozen pose to reconstruct the photo and then they move to bring it to life. Students explain ways that the beach, clothing, objects and activities have changed or stayed the same from the chosen photo to the present.
