Student activity
A screen shot from Jake Duczynskis animation Eight Days in Kamay
Task No. 1

Tell the story

Compose a new transcript for the film, rather than focusing on the exhibition, this new transcript should tell the story.

Work in small groups.

You may need to visit the online exhibition, Eight Days in Kamay, again, to find out more about what happened on 29 April 1770 when the Endeavour arrived at Kamay (Botany Bay).

Write the story from the perspective of one of the Gweagal people who were there. You can use dialogue, narration or a combination of both.

Mute the film and read your new transcript over the top.

Task No. 2

Become a poet

Take a still frame and use it as the stimulus for writing a poem — free form or rhyming — that relates to the ideas represented through the image.
