Shaun Tan’s Dog finds its forever home at the Library

Attention Shaun Tan fans ... the Library has just acquired original artwork and sketches from the celebrated author/illustrator’s award-winning story Dog, with a selection going on public display for the first time from Saturday 5 November.

Library visitors will be able to view evocative large-scale artworks, drawings and storyboards from one of Tan’s most recent books and gain rare insight into his unique creative processes - from early brainstorming notes and pencil sketches, storyboards testing out composition and flow between text and image, through to the final large-scale paintings that appear in his printed books.

According to State Librarian John Vallance: “Some of the most beautiful picture books and illustrations in the Library’s collection can be seen right now as part of our current free exhibition, Imagine … the Wonder of Picture Books. The new display of Shaun Tan material is a wonderful bonus for visitors and for those looking for inspiration.”

A selection of original Shaun Tan material will be on display in the Library’s Amaze Gallery from 5 November to 29 January 2023.
