Our Master Plan

We have created a master plan to give our readers, researchers, students and visitors unprecedented public access to the historic Mitchell building and its extraordinary riches.

Our master plan will deliver:

We're opening up heritage spaces and improving access in and around our Mitchell and Macquarie Street buildings.

extensive new galleries — coming 2018

The new Michael Crouch Galleries will offer a unique experience for our visitors, stretching across the first floor of the historic Mitchell building.

NEW learning centre — coming 2018

The new John B Fairfax Learning Centre will offer both a hands-on and digitally rich learning space for K-12 students, teachers, and families.

Future plans include:

A rooftop restaurant/function space with surrounding views of the city.
