Our State Librarian Dr John Vallance visited MidCoast and Port Stephens libraries last week.
Dr Vallance joined the Minister for the Arts the Hon. Don Harwin and MidCoast Mayor Cr David West to open the newly refurbished Gloucester Library.
Library staff and community members are delighted with the refurbishment, finding it fresh and calming with a feeling of more space. The refurbishment was made possible by a successful Public Library Infrastructure Grant in 2016/17.
MidCoast Library Manager Chris Jones also took the opportunity to show Dr Vallance some of the other great libraries in the area including Taree and Forster libraries. Before heading back to Sydney, he also dropped into Raymond Terrace and Tomaree libraries with Port Stephens Library Manager Kris Abbott.
Tomaree Library is currently closed as it is undergoing renovations, which have been partially funded by a successful 2016/17 Public Library Infrastructure Grant. A closed library is not enough to deter library staff from providing services to their community and Dr Vallance visited the mobile library where services are being provided while the renovations are underway.
Dr Vallance was impressed by the range of services on offer across these wonderful libraries and delighted to see how Public Library Infrastructure Grants are making a difference within communities.
