State Librarian visits Maitland City Library

On a misty morning in early May, our State Librarian Dr John Vallance drove his ute up to Maitland following the old road to Bucketty and Wollombi. He visited the libraries there, and spoke at a celebration to mark the 50th birthday of the very fine Maitland Library building (designed by Walter Bunning, architect of the National Library in Canberra). He had lunch with the Mayor of Maitland Loretta Baker and the City Librarian Keryl Collard, before visiting the Regional Art Gallery and the branch libraries at East Maitland, Rutherford and Thornton.

A great day out, and wonderful to see how important public libraries are in their very different communities.
