Libraries take programs online during COVID-19

A recent State Library survey reveals how NSW public libraries transitioned to the online delivery of popular programs as a response to library building closures due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Prior to April 2020 only 12% of libraries surveyed were delivering programs online. From 1 April to 31 May (when all NSW public library buildings were closed) this number jumped to 86% of libraries.
Following building closures, many public libraries adapted their traditional onsite face-to-face programs to streamed or published video content on online platforms including Facebook, Instagram and YouTube. Many libraries plan to continue with 78% of libraries surveyed commenting they will continue to deliver programs online.
