The State Library can provide advice on reference and information services to library staff and local government.

Public Library Services provides state-wide consultancy and advice on reference and information services to library staff and local government. Research and information services are crucial to any library anywhere.

Networking and Forums

The New South Wales public libraries Reference and Information Services Group (RISG) aims to promote the delivery and development of information services through New South Wales public libraries. It holds quarterly meetings and organises an annual day-long seminar.

The Reference and Information e-list provides a forum for sharing ideas and discussing issues related to the promotion and marketing of library services.  Join this e-list.


Reference and Information Services Group

Join the NSW public library wiki to keep up to date with meetings, the annual seminar, other information and to share your information as well.  The Readers Advisory and the Local Studies working groups are both subcommittees of RISG.


2018 survey of Reference and Information Services Group

Readers' Advisory Working Group

The NSW public library wiki is a way of sharing skills and resources across the state.  You might want to participate in the themes reading group, and to promote it to your library clients. You can use the themes any way you like.

ALIAread is a e-list discussion readers advisory work. It is an international list.


Reference Excellence New South Wales (RefEx-NSW)

This reference-training program for public library staff is based on the highly successful Ohio Reference Excellence training. Ohio Library Council kindly gave permission for their information to be modified for conditions in New South Wales.
