Australian photographer Matthew Abbott won second prize in the 2020 World Press Photo contest, (Spot News, Stories category) for his photograph of a kangaroo trying to escape a wildfire, near a burning house in Lake Conjola, NSW, Australia. This image is part of a series of photographs Matt took during the 2019–20 Australian bushfires.

The Library has been screening a short film made as Matt documented the fires. Join us for this special one-on-one online discussion to hear about Matt’s experiences as he worked to record the catastrophic Australian bushfires and how this work has affected his views on climate change and its human impact.
