Sir Thomas Livingstone Mitchell was appointed as Assistant Surveyor General of New South Wales in 1827. For almost 30 years he kept a record on the development of roads and bridges across the Colony. The manuscript of this monumental infrastructure program is held by the Library. It includes rare sketches and maps produced by Mitchell, displaying his incredible skills in surveying, sketching and cartography.

In this presentation Maggie Patton discusses an infrastructure report to rival today’s nation building projects.
