Email lists

What are email lists?

The State Library of New South Wales hosts email-based forums (elists) to facilitate information exchange, foster collaboration and support professional communication and development within the New South Wales public library network.

To subscribe to a list, unsubscribe or change your settings go to Listserv subscription management and select a list from the dropdown menu.

If you are not from a NSW public library please email pls@sl.nsw.gov.au to request subscription.

Managers' lists

There are a number of lists for NSW public library managers. Please email pls@sl.nsw.gov.au to be added to the managers' list and your zone managers' list.

for NSW public library staff who are interested or involved in games as programs, collections or services in public libraries.

GLAM 
for library staff who are involved in managing galleries, archives and museums as well as public libraries.  This list is not for general GLAM discussion.

for NSW public library staff to use for finding items which are not listed on Libraries Australia.  To be a member of this list your library must be willing to search for each title which is posted to this list.

Conditions of use

State Library of NSW uses Listserv software to manage and host email lists to facilitate statewide communication and discussion.  

List conduct 

  • Provide a short and meaningful subject for each message. 
  • Keep messages brief and relevant. 
  • Respect the opinion of others. 
  • Always provide a signature with postings. 
  • Include a disclaimer, if appropriate.
  • Do not send messages that:  
    • are defamatory 
    • infringe copyright 
    • are spam (send multiple similar email messages, including persistent messages on topics unrelated to the purpose of the list) 
    • in any way breach criminal law 
    • are threatening, abusive or harassing 
    • contain viruses or destructive programs 
    • are chain letters. 

Commercial purposes 

These lists are not for advertising businesses.  A simple statement that offers a way to follow up for more information on a service or product is acceptable if it accompanies a substantive message discussing a subject appropriate to the list.  

Announcements of conferences, workshops, new publications, and position openings appropriate to the topic of the list are welcome. 

Attachments

Attachments are limited to pdf or jpg files to reduce the likelihood of phishing. 

Archives

Archives of list messages will potentially be retained indefinitely. State Library of NSW staff will monitor performance and storage capacity of Listserv lists and will advise of any potential change to archive limits.

Information and privacy

The State Library of NSW collects your subscriber information to enable us to provide you with a range of email list services.  By subscribing to an email list you agree to your subscriber information being stored offshore with the email list provider. This supplier is allowed to use the data for contractually agreed purposes and must handle data in a confidential and secure manner, in accordance with Privacy and Personal Information Protection Act 1998 (NSW) and Privacy and Personal Information Protection Regulation 2019 (NSW).
