George Souris

With a career spanning 34 years in elected office — in local government for seven years and then 27 years in the NSW Parliament — George Souris held 13 ministerial portfolios over three governments. He served as Minister for the Arts, a portfolio which included the State Library of NSW.

Mr Souris started his professional career as an accountant including in public practice. He is a director of the Australian Film Institute | Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts, the Australian Rugby Foundation, Racing NSW, Business Events Sydney Ltd and Destination NSW, and is Chair of the NSW Mine Safety Council. He is President of the Library Council of NSW and a member of its Audit and Risk Committee as well as the Destination NSW Audit and Risk Committee. He is a trustee of the Sydney Cricket Ground Heritage Trust and a trustee of the Sir Earle Page Memorial Trust.

The wonderful partnership between Library Council and the Foundation has enabled the State Library to enhance its collection, endow a wide range of research, and support the development of the Library’s facilities for the community of New South Wales.
