Membership card for the Pan-Am 'First Moon Flights Club' 1969

By Pan American World Airways Inc

The Library holds some very special pieces of ephemera relating to the excitement and fascination around the space race and Apollo 11 mission, including two membership tickets to the ‘First Moon Flights Club’. This worldwide waiting list was created in 1964 by Pan American airlines in savvy self-promotion and hopeful anticipation of commercial space flight in the near future. You can also peruse the lunar-themed menu created especially for Qantas flight 596 as it witnessed the re-entry of Apollo 11 into the earth’s atmosphere, and the 22 July 1969 front page of the Sydney Morning Herald signed by astronauts Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin and Michael Collins.
