The film sequel Mary Poppins Returns is delighting audiences around the world. The creator of its main character was Australian-born PL Travers, who wrote a series of eight books between 1934 and 1988 featuring the enigmatic nanny. This publicity shot of Travers, taken in 1934,  comes from a collection of family and personal photographs collected by P.L. Travers.
