Portrait photograph of Zora Cross1919

This photograph was taken on Zora Cross’s 29th birthday, on 18 May 1919. At the time she was one of Australia’s best-known poets, having published two poetry collections with Angus & Robertson. She would go on to write an acclaimed elegy for her younger brother who died in the First World, novels set in her home state of Queensland, and a series of entertaining interviews with her fellow women writers of the 1920s and 30s for the popular magazine Australian Woman’s Mirror.
