Student activity
Geography: Years 3 and 4

This is the student activity 1 of 5 of the The earth's environment: vegetation types learning activity.

Thick dense forest
Task No. 1

Field journal

Draw a field sketch of a natural vegetation area in your school grounds or local area and label trees, shrubs, grasses and other natural features. Ensure to include a heading that includes the vegetation type, location and date.

Write a description of the area as if they are seeing it for the very first time as a colonial explorer. As an extension, you could research the annual average rainfall of their area on the Bureau of Meteorology website and add this to the notes on your field sketch.
