The future
Students plan, create and present their own futuristic illustration as an additional page for Shaun Tan’s book Dog.
Task No. 1
Experimenting
Imagine that you are Shaun Tan and your editor has asked you to prepare a final illustration for the story showing the relationship between humans and dogs in an imagined future. You will use the same diagonal line layout in your illustration.
In order to do this, complete the following:
- a basic thumbnail sketch
- a colourful small sketch – to test the colours and layout
- a final larger detailed illustration.
Present your final illustration to the class and talk about the details in your illustration and why you decided to represent the future in this way. Explain the emotion you wanted to convey in this illustration and how you tried to do that.
