A drawing of two men in top hats surveying the landscape beyond them.

View of the Farm 1825−28

By Augustus Earle

Cleared land surrounding the rich alluvial river flats of the Nepean River is illustrated here, with the line of the forest in the middle distance. John Macarthur’s land grants at the Cow Pastures caused much contention between the pastoralist and NSW governors King, Bligh and Macquarie, but once secured they underpinned his successful agricultural ventures.
