School Work Experience Program

 

APPLICATIONS FOR 2024 PROGRAM OPEN 6 MAY

The State Library of NSW exists in order to collect, preserve and support access to materials that enrich people’s lives. We have over 300 staff who work across a variety of areas including Librarianship, Communications, Indigenous Engagement, Learning Services, Conservation, Public Programs, Digital and more.  

Does the Library accept work experience students?  

Yes, we welcome work experience students. The program is in high demand, and we are limited in the number of placements we can offer. We strongly recommend you have alternative arrangements in place in case your application is not successful.

Please note we take work experience students in Term 3 only.  

How do I apply for secondary school work experience at the Library?  

Applications for 2024 open on 6 May.

What does work experience at the Library involve?  

Each placement is limited to four days Tuesday–Friday, working 10 am – 3 pm.

Students will have the opportunity to spend time in many different areas of the Library.

History of the Library

The State Library of NSW began as a small subscription library in the 1820s for colonials who were desperate to read books. From these early beginnings it became the world class, global library it is today.
