Series 35: Miscellaneous reports and memoranda concerning the settlements in Australia, [1770], ca 1786-1808

Provenance note

Documents 1-8, 10-14, 16-23, 26, 28-38, 42-44 and 46-53, in this series, were previously located at ML A78-2. Documents 39-40 and 45 were previously located at ML A78-3.

These documents were purchased in 1884 from Lord Brabourne by Sir Saul Samuel, the Agent-General for New South Wales, were transferred to the Mitchell Library in 1910. They were part of the accession which became known as the Brabourne collection.

Some documents in this series were used by the compilers of Historical records of New South Wales and include some minor footnotes and annotations made by the compilers.

Document 41 in this series was previously located at ML A82. Documents 24-25 and 27 were previously located at ML A83. They were part of an accession of Banks papers purchased for the Mitchell Library from Sotheby's, London, in May 1929.

Document 9 in this series was previously located at ML MSS 743/3. It was acquired for the Library from Maggs Brothers, London, in 1946.

Document 15, previously located at ML A2022, was acquired for the Library from the dealer Michelmore in 1935.

It is now not possible to reconstruct Banks' original arrangement, the series has therefore been arranged chronologically.
